Material and Colors

This chain is 304 grade stainless steel.

  • Silver: Natural stainless steel color — not silver plated. Durable and highly tarnish resistant.
  • Gold: Stainless steel base with 18k double PVD gold plating for excellent tarnish resistance and long-lasting color.

Why is the gold chain more expensive?
The gold version features a double PVD gold coating over stainless steel. This finish is far more durable than traditional gold plating and is designed to withstand everyday wear. I wore test samples for several months, including in the shower and at the beach, and was impressed by how well the finish held up.

The chain links are compatible with jump rings up to approximately 0.85 mm wire thickness (about 20 gauge).

Are these findings hypoallergenic?

The findings are made from stainless steel, which is considered hypoallergenic for most people due to its low nickel. However, they are not nickel-free and may still cause reactions in individuals with severe nickel sensitivities. To learn more about what "hypoallergenic" means and how different metals affect sensitive skin, check out our detailed guide: What Does Hypoallergenic Really Mean?

Are these findings tarnish-proof?

The gold findings are PVD plated, making them highly tarnish-resistant and more durable than standard plating. While they are designed to maintain their finish for a long time, they are not entirely tarnish-proof. To keep them in the best condition, avoid exposure to water, sweat, perfumes, and harsh chemicals.

Are these findings nickel-free?

No, these findings are not nickel-free. Stainless steel contains trace amounts of nickel. However, its excellent corrosion resistance significantly reduces nickel release, making it suitable for most individuals with mild sensitivities. For those with severe nickel allergies, we recommend exploring truly nickel-free options like titanium or niobium.

Why is gold more expensive than silver?

Our gold findings are made from stainless steel with double PVD gold plating, a premium finish that is significantly more durable and longer-lasting than standard plating.

The “silver” version is natural stainless steel (not plated), which is already very strong and tarnish resistant.

The additional materials and processing required for the gold finish make it more expensive to produce.

What makes PVD coating better than standard plating?

PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is a high-quality finishing process that applies a thin, durable layer of material onto a surface. This process enhances the appearance and increases the resistance to tarnishing, scratches, and corrosion. PVD-coated findings are highly durable and maintain their color and finish much longer than standard plating. However, to prolong their life, it is still recommended to avoid exposure to water, sweat, and harsh chemicals.

How do I care for these findings?

To keep your findings in the best condition:

  • Store them in a dry place when not in use.
  • Avoid exposure to water, sweat, perfumes, or cleaning chemicals.
  • Wipe gently with a soft cloth to clean.
